Chapter 2 Understanding One's Origins
Chapter 2 Understanding One's Origins
Returning to the present moment, Lin Shushu looked at the ground beneath her feet and shook her head helplessly. She'd only just transmigrated once, and the beginning of her life was being stranded on a desolate planet, struggling to survive.
Speaking of the desolate planet M19, one must mention the original owner's (hereafter referred to as Lin Shushu) father. Lin Shushu's father was named Lin Cheng'an, the eldest son of Lin Yu, the head of the Lin family, a first-class family on the main planet of the Empire, Tian Shu.
The country is now called the Jin Yuan Empire, and the royal family is the Jin clan.
The Imperial Star also has four first-class families: the Mo family, the Gu family, the Lin family, and the Xiao family.
The Mohists were the guardians of the empire, protecting its borders for generations and deeply loved by the people of the empire.
The Gu family has been involved in politics for generations, and the current regent of the empire is the head of the Gu family.
The Xiao family is the maternal family of the current Empress of the Empire, and they monopolize more than half of the Empire's food industry market.
The Lin family is the family to which Lin Shushu belongs. The Lin family is an old family in the Imperial Star, with a history of more than 3000 years. The family's main business is in the energy sector, and they control one-third of the empire's energy lifeline. Even in the entire empire, they are a force that few dare to provoke.
The current head of the Lin family, Lin Yu, is seventy-six years old. He has been married twice. His first wife was named An Sheng, who passed away after giving birth to Lin Shushu's father, Lin Cheng'an. Less than two months later, Lin Yu married his current wife, Ning Ya, and they have since had three sons and two daughters.
Speaking of Lin Yu and An Sheng, their relationship can be considered a free love affair, and they had a sweet time together. When Lin Yu was young, he traveled and met An Sheng when he arrived at the planet where An's family lived. He was spirited and handsome, and she was youthful, beautiful, and lively. The feelings between the young man and woman came quickly and intensely, and they soon decided that they would marry no one but each other.
Initially, the An family did not agree to the marriage, but they could not go against their daughter who had been pampered since childhood. In the end, they took out half of their family fortune and watched with tears in their eyes as their daughter went to the capital with a man she had only known for a short time.
The two caused a huge uproar upon their return to the Imperial Star, as the heir of the first-class Lin family had married a poor family from a remote planet.
The strongest opposition came from the Lin family, who had already chosen the Ning family, a second-tier clan, as Lin Yu's marriage partner. Now, with this unexpected obstacle, the Lin family was extremely hostile towards An Sheng. However, since the two had already registered their marriage on the StarNet, they had no choice but to endure it, though they never showed An Sheng a kind look.
Despite facing exclusion and neglect, An Sheng persevered through her love for Lin Yu and gave birth to her son, Lin Cheng'an, a year later. Perhaps due to the physical damage caused by childbirth, or the severe emotional impact of the oppressive environment, An Sheng finally succumbed to her grief and passed away when her son was one year old.
After An Sheng's death, the Lin and Ning families discussed the marriage again. This time, Lin Yu had no excuse to refuse and reluctantly agreed. Two months later, he officially registered his marriage with Ning Ya.
After their marriage, the couple had three sons and two daughters: their eldest son Lin Chenghui, their second son Lin Chengye, their eldest daughter Lin Yuting, their second daughter Lin Yuwan, and their youngest son Lin Chengjin.
Ning Ya had liked Lin Yu since childhood and always believed that she was the rightful future wife of the Lin family head. However, An Sheng snatched him away, and she hated An Sheng to the core, especially An Sheng's son, whom she wished she could get rid of as soon as possible. Of course, she would not tell outsiders these thoughts.
Perhaps out of guilt towards his deceased wife, Lin Yu arranged for his trusted confidants to take care of Lin Cheng'an after An Sheng's death, but he himself rarely paid attention to his eldest son.
Lin Cheng'an grew up with difficulty, neglected by his father and hated by his stepmother. He left the family early after reaching adulthood, and no one knew or cared where he went.
When Lin Cheng'an was twenty-eight years old, Lin Yu sent his trusted confidant back to Lin Cheng'an with news of Lin Cheng'an's death and a baby girl. This baby girl was Lin Shushu.
After learning the news, Lin Yu remained silent in his study for a long time before finally saying, "Stay."
Lin Shushu stayed with the Lin family, and her situation was predictably difficult, given that she was orphaned and unwelcome by her grandfather. She was placed in a secluded courtyard, and her only companion was an old, obsolete nanny robot. Fortunately, although the robot was old, it still had basic functions, and Lin Shushu grew up safely with it, learning basic life skills so she wouldn't grow up to be a mute fool.
In the Lin family, Lin Shushu was like an invisible person. Very few people knew her identity, and the number of people she had met in the past eighteen years could be counted on one hand.
When Lin Shushu was ten years old, she met the first member of the Lin family, a proud little girl named Lin Keke, who was the daughter of Lin Chenghui, the eldest son of Lin Yu and Ning Ya.
Lin Keke chased her pet cat into Lin Shushu's courtyard and saw Lin Shushu standing under a tree, lost in thought.
Lin Keke looked around, covering her nose in disgust, and shouted arrogantly at Lin Shushu, "Where did this wild girl come from? Where is my ball? Hand it over now."
Lin Shushu was staring blankly at a snowball on a tree. She had never seen this species before. In fact, she had never seen any living creature other than herself in all her life, even at the age of ten. She was just wondering about it when she was suddenly startled by a questioning voice. She quickly turned around and looked in the direction of the voice.
A little girl in a puffy dress stood at the gate, adorned with exquisite hair accessories and a sparkling necklace, glancing sideways at Lin Shushu. Looking at the girl's beautiful attire, then at her own drab clothes, Lin Shushu cautiously pointed to the tree trunk, "You mean this?"
Lin Keke came to the tree and called out twice, but the kitten showed no sign of coming down.
"Go up and bring my ball down," Lin Keke ordered Lin Shushu.
Lin Shushu looked at the kitten in the tree, then at herself, and finally climbed up the tree under Lin Keke's unfriendly gaze. Fortunately, the tree was not very high, so climbing it was not too difficult.
Lin Shushu slowly climbed up the tree, intending to reach out and hug the kitten. However, the usually docile kitten suddenly went berserk, and as Lin Shushu's hand reached out, it quickly clawed at her.
Lin Shushu cried out in pain and hurriedly pulled her hands back, but she lost her balance and fell from the tree. Each of her thin little hands had a deep scratch, from which blood was seeping out.
"Useless thing," Lin Keke said disdainfully.
At this moment, the people around Lin Keke found the courtyard. Without even glancing at Lin Shushu lying on the ground, they picked up the kitten under Lin Keke's direction, and then left in a large group.
Later, Lin Keke learned from Ning Ya that Lin Shushu was the daughter of her uncle whom she had never met. Seeing the resentful look in her grandmother's eyes when she talked about the so-called uncle, she resolved to make Lin Shushu suffer.
From then on, Lin Keke, along with her brothers, sisters, and servants, would frequently cause trouble for Lin Shushu. They would cut her clothes to shreds, put insects in her food, and do whatever they could to make her suffer. On several occasions, they even took pleasure in tormenting Lin Shushu.
Even when Lin Shushu turned eighteen, Ning Ya's hatred remained unresolved. She decided to completely erase all traces of An Sheng's existence and send Lin Shushu far away. In the end, she chose a desolate star under Lin Cheng'an's name, which he had inherited from An Sheng, and used it to get rid of Lin Shushu.
