Chapter 99 Accident
Chapter 99 Accident
After Xiao Siyue and her two maids returned to the temple, Lin Qin was still sitting in the pavilion outside.
"Mom, we're back," Xiao Siyue greeted them and then happily shared the news with Lin Qin.
"Mom, there's a big patch of ginkgo trees behind here, they're really beautiful. Let me go with you to see them."
"Really?" This was Lin Qin's first time visiting Guning Temple.
"Next time, it's getting late, we should go back," Lin Qin glanced at the sky. It was already late afternoon, and if they didn't leave soon, they might not be able to get back before dark.
"Alright then, bring your brother along next time." Xiao Siyue was a little disappointed, but she knew Lin Qin was right.
On their way back, they didn't walk up the steps again, but instead took a horse-drawn carriage down the mountain along the road.
Getting off in a horse-drawn carriage is indeed much faster.
As they were about to enter the city, Xiao Siyue suddenly needed to relieve herself, so she stopped the carriage.
Lin Qin originally wanted to go with her, but Xiao Siyue said she could manage and wouldn't go too far, so Xiao Siyue went alone. However, for some reason, she had just finished relieving herself and was about to go back when suddenly everything went black and she knew nothing more.
When Xiao Siyue woke up again, she felt a little dizzy and lightheaded.
Rubbing her aching forehead, Xiao Siyue suddenly heard a concerned voice beside her.
Are you alright?
When Xiao Siyue looked over, she found that it was a girl about the same age as her.
Xiao Siyue was startled. Who was this?
She quickly looked around and realized that she seemed to be in a room. Moreover, there were not only her and the girl from before, but also several other children of similar age, both boys and girls.
Xiao Siyue had a bad feeling.
"I'm fine. Where is this?" Xiao Siyue steadied herself and asked the girl who had just spoken to her.
"I don't know where this is either?" the girl said, looking dejected.
"Then how did you end up here?" Xiao Siyue asked again.
"I don't know. I was playing on the street, and somehow I suddenly lost consciousness. When I woke up, I was already here," the girl said, tears welling up in her eyes.
Upon hearing this, Xiao Siyue realized that it was similar to her situation.
It seems they were captured.
Xiao Siyue suddenly remembered what Xiao Qinian had said about human traffickers, and guessed that she had probably encountered human traffickers as well.
"How long have you been here?" Xiao Siyue quickly asked again.
"It's been four days already, I miss my parents so much! Waaah..." The girl couldn't hold back any longer and burst into tears. She was the first one to be captured. At first, she was terrified, but she also held onto hope.
But as more children arrived over the past few days, she felt a little better.
"Four days?"
Xiao Siyue calculated the time and realized that this girl was probably among the first batch to be arrested.
"Have you seen any other children since you came here?" Xiao Siyue wanted to confirm whether all the children kidnapped by human traffickers were here, or whether some had already been moved.
"No, I was the first one here, everyone who came after me is here," the girl said, crying.
Xiao Siyue breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, there was still a chance of being rescued. If she had been moved, it would have been very difficult to find her again.
Xiao Siyue carefully looked around and noticed that the children were all looking at them timidly.
However, Xiao Siyue found a boy lying on the ground, seemingly still unconscious.
"Who is he?" Xiao Siyue got up and moved next to the boy.
"I don't know either. He came with you, and he still hasn't woken up," the girl said, wiping away her tears.
Xiao Siyue checked the boy's breathing and found it to be normal, guessing that he had probably been drugged.
Xiao Siyue looked at the boy, who was probably only four or five years old, even younger than her, but judging from his clothes, he was probably from a wealthy family.
Xiao Siyue sat down next to the boy.
"What's your name?" Xiao Siyue asked the only girl who spoke to her.
“My name is Li Qi,” the girl said, moving down to sit in front of Xiao Siyue.
The main reason was that Xiao Siyue appeared calm and bold, which made her feel safe.
The children who came before her cried as soon as they arrived, and ended up trembling, which made Li Qi, who was already afraid, even more terrified.
"My name is Xiao Siyue." Xiao Siyue also told Li Qi her name.
"Waaah... Siyue, do you think we can go back?" Seeing that Xiao Siyue was willing to talk to her, Li Qi cried and vented all her worries and fears from the past few days.
Xiao Siyue reached out and put her arm around Li Qi, comforting her, "We definitely will, we will definitely go back."
As the two were comforting each other, they suddenly heard a soft moan.
Looking around, I saw that the boy who had been unconscious had woken up.
The boy was a little confused when he woke up and didn't know where he was.
"You're awake. Is anything bothering you?" Xiao Siyue asked with concern.
"Sister, where is this place?" The boy asked shyly when he saw the beautiful older sister looking at him with a gentle expression.
Xiao Siyue was also a little unsure how to tell the boy that he had been kidnapped by human traffickers.
After hesitating for a long time, he said, "We were all captured, and I don't know where this place is."
The boy was initially confused, but quickly realized what was happening and burst into tears.
"Wow... I want to go back, I want my sister."
Xiao Siyue was at a loss; she didn't know how to comfort the child.
All she could do was awkwardly pat the boy's head and say, "Don't cry, your sister will definitely find you."
But the boy kept crying, so Xiao Siyue quickly gave Li Qi a look, signaling her to comfort him, as she was at her wit's end.
Before Li Qi could even offer some comfort, the door was kicked open forcefully.
Xiao Siyue looked over and saw a fierce-looking, burly man carrying a whip striding in.
He immediately started cursing: "You little brat, what are you crying for? You're giving me a headache."
He pointed the whip at Xiao Siyue and said, "If you cry again, I'll beat you to death."
The boy was so frightened that he stopped crying and hid in Xiao Siyue's arms, trembling.
Xiao Siyue also took the opportunity to hug the child to prevent him from being whipped by the big man.
After the boy stopped crying, the big man continued to curse, "You bunch of brats, all of you better behave yourselves. If anyone dares to disturb me again, don't blame me for beating you to death."
The burly man gave a warning and then went out again. Xiao Siyue could hear him locking the door.
After the big man had gone far away, Xiao Siyue's tense body relaxed a little, and she pulled the child out of her arms.
Seeing the boy's face covered in tears, Xiao Siyue felt a pang of sympathy.
"Alright, you can't cry anymore, or you'll get a beating." Xiao Siyue wanted to use a handkerchief to wipe the boy's face, but she couldn't find one; she guessed it was lost. So she could only use her sleeve to wipe the boy's tears.
"Hiccup... I know... hiccup... Sister." The boy replied while hiccuping.
