Chapter 194 The Saintess
Chapter 194 The Saintess
"What? They've started fighting?"
A small green man with a full white beard who rushed over was dumbfounded when he heard this. His Majesty had ordered him to come and receive these young humans. He remembered that not long had passed, so how did a fight break out?
"Yes, Your Excellency!" The demon being questioned looked at the little green figure with unusual excitement, and said in a respectful and flattering tone, "The Bull Demon Lord of the Priest Temple had a few too many drinks and accidentally bumped into the Badger Lord of the Temple. These two lords had a conflict before and both have strong personalities. They started fighting after only a few words."
"So, it wasn't those few junior humans who started the trouble, how did they get involved?" the little man in green asked, completely puzzled.
"When those two lords were fighting, I saw these few human juniors go over to watch. You know that Lord Badger He doesn't care if there are other demons around when he fights, so these humans got caught up in it, didn't they?"
The demon was still puzzled by this, because if it were a demon, it would be best to stay as far away as possible from such a thing, but these humans did not, they went straight over, what was there to see?
"Where are they now? Are they alright?" The little man in green knew Badger He's cultivation level. Although his fighting style was a bit crazy, his strength was not weak. He was a top-notch cultivator among the younger generation, while those human juniors were all at the Nascent Soul stage. How could things end well if they ran into each other?
"Those junior humans were quite formidable. Before Lord Badger He and Lord Bull Demon could even determine a winner, they were beaten and subdued by these humans. Not long after, the Demon Affairs Department came to take charge and took them all away."
Lord Badger He was initially unwilling to give up, wanting to fight these humans again, and kept struggling. Fortunately, the Holy Maiden was spreading holy water to bless them, calming them down!
After hearing what the demon said, the little man in green didn't linger and rushed to the Demon Affairs Department to fetch the person.
On the other side, Cheng Jiu and the others obediently followed behind the demons from the Demon Affairs Department. It wasn't that they didn't want to resist, but each of the demon guards sent by the Demon Affairs Department had an aura of Nascent Soul Realm or above.
Aside from their own strength, every single demonic beast accompanying them was at least at the Dao Integration Realm. How could they possibly run? How could they possibly resist? They might as well just give up!
Perhaps because they were too obedient, they weren't handcuffed like prisoners. Behind them were two unfortunate souls with bruised and swollen faces; judging from the swelling on their faces, one could imagine how terrible their ordeal had been.
The girl standing at the front had a beautiful figure, soft rabbit ears hanging down on both sides, pink hair adorned with intricate gemstone and gold ornaments, a pink dress, and a fluffy rabbit tail that swayed back and forth like a soft strawberry cake.
The young woman possessed an elegant demeanor, clearly indicating her distinguished status: "Thank you for your trouble, General Zoi! May God protect you and keep you safe."
The young woman gracefully clasped her hands together and gave a slight bow to General Zoi, who was at the head of the group.
"I am grateful to the Holy Maiden for stepping in to help. It is my duty and not a trouble at all," General Zuo Yi said, flattered.
“Badger He is a faithful follower of God and did not intentionally violate the law. May he pray for forgiveness before God, and I believe God will forgive him,” the girl continued.
"The gods are merciful!" General Zoi said with piety and fervor. "However, this matter involves another high priest, and we need to discuss with him before deciding how to handle it."
Upon hearing this, the saintess frowned slightly, knowing that she could not take the person back on the spot: "General Zuo Yi is performing his duties, so I will listen to General Zuo Yi. Please allow me to accompany you."
“Of course! This is the protection of the gods,” General Zuo Yi said respectfully and devoutly.
"God will be pleased to have a devout believer like you."
Under General Zoi's protection, the girl sat on the back of the monster brought by General Zoi, while General Zoi moved to sit on the back of the monster brought by his subordinate.
With General Zuo Yi's order to depart, Cheng Jiu and his group of five were escorted into a specially brought prison cart, enjoying the high-standard treatment of being pulled by a Dao Integration Realm demon beast. Not to mention, the prison cart was quite spacious, even with five people inside, it still felt a bit empty.
The other two unfortunate souls, who were also the main culprits, were given single-person cells in the prison van.
The Demon Affairs Bureau arrives slowly but leaves quickly. As the city's main guard and violent agency, the Demon Affairs Bureau occupies an entire street in the main city, which can be described as quite domineering.
Besides maintaining order in the city, handling daily affairs, organizing patrols, and guarding the massive city walls outside, the Demon Affairs Department is responsible for all sorts of tasks.
The procession was bustling with activity. The convoy did not stop, but instead headed straight for a specially designated prison, where criminals and demons were imprisoned.
Because the demon race is extremely fond of alcohol, they often cause trouble while drinking, making this place very lively.
The prison grounds covered an enormous area, carved out of an entire mountain. Green vines could be seen on its surface, but at the very bottom was a huge opening. Surrounding both sides were monitoring towers, and the area was patrolled by powerful demon guards.
Besides the main entrance, there are several side entrances next to the cave entrance. One side entrance is for demons who have committed crimes, while the other side entrance is for demons who have been released.
The gate was firmly locked by a massive iron gate, and in front of the main entrance stood a menacing iron fence that gleamed with a merciless and indifferent light in the sunlight, giving the criminals an unparalleled sense of oppression.
"Thank you for your help, General Zuo Yi. Huan He has always been a man of strong character, and he is bound to be impatient in prison. Please forgive him and arrange a suitable place for him." The saintess did not come down from the gate, but instead handed over a very clear gemstone.
"Your Holiness, what are you saying! This is simply my duty." Looking at the gem handed to her by the Holy Maiden, Zuo Yi hurriedly said, flustered, "It's nothing, there's no need for this, no need for this."
"This is a token of my appreciation; consider it payment for your brother's wine." The saintess didn't take it back but tossed it into his arms.
"That's unnecessary!"
"Those humans seem kind to me, I hope the general won't make things difficult for them," the saintess said earnestly.
General Zuo Yi paused for a moment upon hearing this, seemingly recalling the rumors circulating in the city, but did not refuse: "Please rest assured, Holy Maiden, you have come from afar. We are all guests, and we will not make things difficult for you."
“I believe in General Zoi,” the saintess said gently, her voice filled with trust.
Hearing the saintess's words of trust, General Zoi was eager to go through fire and water for her; it was just a small favor, a trivial matter.
Cheng Jiu and the others were completely unaware of the conversation taking place ahead. Sitting in the prison cart, they looked out the bars with great interest, glancing around with excitement and curiosity.
It was quite eye-catching, after all, which of the arrested people wasn't disappointed and complaining? They were all so spirited and looked like they had never seen the world before.
Moreover, being human, they received the undivided attention of every demon they encountered along the way.
The group paid no attention to the gazes of the demons.
The convoy slowly began to move, entering through a side gate surrounded by a group of demon guards. They continued walking in, while most of the demon guards went to a side path to hand in their missions.
They arrived at a parking lot. It was called a parking lot because rows of prison vans were parked in an orderly fashion in this large space. When the prison vans stopped, one of the two demon guards following the vans took out a large key and opened the van.
Another demon guard made contact with the arriving demon.
"These are all people the Holy Maiden specifically requested to look after. Be careful and don't let anyone offend them," the demon guard said to the prison guard who came to register.
“Lord Badger He? Of course we know the rules.” The prison guard saw an old acquaintance. Needless to say, he would be surprised if Badger He didn’t come to prison for a month.
"And those few humans too."
"Humans?" The prison guard was startled, then realized what he meant and nodded, continuing the registration: "Understood."
"Then I'll leave it to you! General Zuo Yi will treat you to drinks later." Seeing that he understood, the demon guard patted him on the shoulder like a good buddy.
"Haha, then I'll be waiting!" After the demon guard finished registering, he said to Cheng Jiu and the others, "You guys behave yourselves in the demon prison, come with me!"
After speaking, he led the way, while the other two culprits didn't have the same freedom. After all, they were both repeat offenders with criminal records, and they were forced to walk by two prison guards, unable to move at all.
After descending the steps, there were rows of prison cells, incredibly cramped. Each cell held a demon, while several others were empty. The conditions were poor; they were barely habitable, with only straw mats for demons to sit or sleep in.
"This is where minor offenders are held. They'll be released after a few days!" the guard explained.
Gong Yu looked around: "There are quite a lot of demons!"
"This is a prison, so please do not make any noise. This is a warning. If you are warned again, don't blame us for taking special measures."
The prison guards pulled Gong Yu back from running around. Didn't he understand where he was? Was this a prison, or a demon prison? Didn't this human have any sense of being a guest?
"Sorry, sorry!" Miyagi pulled his younger brother along, giving him a warning look.
Gong Yu immediately became obedient, following behind the demon guards, no longer daring to wander around.
Having passed through these single rooms, I thought the previous ones were bad enough, but I didn't expect there to be even worse ones. The rooms here are much louder than the previous ones, but there are so many monsters living here, four in one room. Although the previous ones were small, at least they were single rooms.
"These are all inmates who have committed minor and serious crimes. They were arrested for violating the Demon Emperor's laws and will be released after a year or two. Moreover, each of them has undergone training and assessment before being allowed to live here." The prison guard did not linger with the group but continued walking forward.
What followed wasn't bad, but it was chilling. It was a prison with two rooms, one for each prisoner, and next to it was the execution chamber. It was incredibly cruel; you could hear the prisoners screaming as you walked inside.
"This is a serious criminal who committed a grave crime that does not warrant death. In order to atone for his sins, he must endure daily flogging to cleanse himself of his transgressions before he can regain the protection of God and the King!"
The guards continued forward, passing the prison for serious offenders. The prison before them was worlds apart from the ones outside. The rooms were large, fully furnished with beds, chairs, tables, and other amenities. It could easily accommodate five people. Moreover, there were very few demons living in this prison.
Seeing the group enter, they all cast curious glances at them, but when they saw the two demons being held up behind them, they seemed unsurprised.
The prison guards opened the three adjacent cells. Cheng Jiu and the other five were pushed into the middle cell, while the other two, Badger He, were on their left and Bull Demon was on their right.
With three crisp clicks of the locks closing, the prison guards left, leaving the five imprisoned men staring at each other in bewilderment.
"Hey, you're all about to die, aren't you afraid?" In the empty prison cell, Badger He leaned lazily against a chair, crossed his legs, and swung them around as he looked at the five men.
"Is death imminent? How was that decided? We shouldn't have committed any crimes deserving of death!" Cheng Jiu asked curiously.
Although they beat the two demons unilaterally, they did not kill them, showing considerable restraint in their actions.
There was no damage, and the damaged buildings were all caused by those two demons, so there's no way to hold them responsible.
"What do you mean, why? Because this is the territory of the demon race, and you actually attacked demons on demon territory! After doing something so outrageous, you don't think you can get away unscathed, do you?!"
As he spoke, Badger He touched his swollen face, wincing in pain. These humans were too ruthless! It hurts so much!
The five people, who had only heard rumors and had never experienced the battlefield between humans and demons, but had only heard about the tense relationship between them, were speechless.
They genuinely didn't grasp the concept, but even if these demons wanted to hold them accountable or do something to them, they weren't worried. After all, the five of them hadn't come to the demon realm alone; their master was still there. Would they let others bully them?
"Oh!" Cheng Jiu replied indifferently.
"How about it? Scared yet?" Badger He looked at the five people with a smug expression: "However, that female cultivator! As long as you beg me and promise to fight me one-on-one after we get out."
I can plead with them to let you out! How about it?
"So, brother, all you've said is that you want to fight Junior Sister Xiao Jiu?" Li Weixin looked at Huan He in surprise.
He remembered how badly the other guy had been beaten. Look at the marks on his face that hadn't faded yet—and that was just the surface! There must be quite a few more injuries on his body. And he still wanted to fight like that? Was this guy a masochist?
"You're quite strong, you can come too!" Badger He's eyes shone brightly. He didn't care who his opponent was, as long as they were stronger than him. His tone was firm and devout: "Only through constant battles can one's martial arts skills be continuously improved and one's strength continuously enhanced. And my current strength is all thanks to constant battles!"
"Don't listen to this guy's nonsense!" The Bull Demon next to him became more composed: "This guy's race is a war badger. As long as he keeps fighting, his strength will keep increasing. He's also sticky and clingy."
Once you defeat them, they'll swarm you, constantly looking for opportunities to fight until you're completely defeated. Once they're on your side, you can't shake them off. I defeated this guy before, and now he keeps coming back to haunt me; I'm a regular here now!
As he spoke, the Bull Demon looked at the humans with a mixture of relief and pity. This guy was finally going to change the people he had been provoking.
"Hey! What's your decision?" Badger He asked.
"Not good enough! We refuse!" Cheng Jiu didn't want to encounter fight maniacs who would constantly demand a fight during his time in the demon realm.
