Chapter 39 The Real World: First Encounters After Rebirth
Chapter 39 The Real World: First Encounters After Rebirth
Having lived a sweet and happy life with Lu Yichen, Su Jinyue closed her eyes peacefully on her deathbed.
When Su Jinyue opened her eyes in the real world, she first felt the youthful and vibrant body before slowly shaking off the heaviness of her old body.
Su Jinyue glanced at the clock; only five minutes had passed. It was still shortly after Assistant Lu had taken her to Fu Cinian's residence.
Su Jinyue stood up from the sofa. Having spent a lifetime with Lu Yichen, the melancholy she felt when she first entered this long-lost house had long been cured.
Now she finally felt like visiting Fu Cinian's house.
A housekeeper comes to clean the house every three days, so the house is very clean.
The European-style decor makes the room layout look neat and simple, but lacks a strong sense of everyday life.
The study, gym, and bedroom still show some signs of life, but the rest of the rooms seem unused.
Su Jinyue only opened the doors to the study and bedroom briefly before going inside.
Assistant Lu had specifically instructed that no one was allowed to enter the study.
As for the bedroom, Su Jinyue thought about it and decided not to go in. Although she had lived in this room for 7 years in her previous life, she and Fu Cinian were still strangers. Su Jinyue wisely refrained from entering such a private space as the bedroom.
The kitchen was fully equipped with all the necessary utensils and appliances, but most of them had never been used. The refrigerator, as Assistant Lu had described, was crammed full.
It was already noon, and since Fu Cinian wouldn't be back for lunch, Su Jinyue planned to cook for herself at home.
Fu Cinian doesn't eat tomatoes, so Su Jinyue made a tomato and egg stir-fry, a stir-fried beef, and a seaweed and egg drop soup.
After finishing her meal and cleaning up the kitchen, Su Jinyue, seeing that she still had some time, went to the guest bedroom's bathroom to take a shower.
Having nothing to do in the afternoon, she took a university book and spent half the day reading it while basking in the sun on the balcony.
Su Jinyue rarely has such leisure time.
Before her rebirth, she was always busy making money, and even after meeting Fu Cinian, she remained busy.
In the world she transmigrated to, she was studying medicine and wanted to find a way to completely cure leukemia, so she was always busy.
Unfortunately, despite a lifetime of research, no cure has been found, but unintentionally, it has solved many other incurable diseases.
Now, Su Jinyue no longer feels inferior. Having been pampered by Lu Yichen her whole life, she has enough confidence to face Fu Cinian.
Seeing that it was almost time, Su Jinyue put down her book, got up and went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.
As if by prior arrangement, just as Su Jinyue placed the food on the table, the sound of the door opening rang out.
Is Fu Cinian back?
Su Jinyue tensed up instantly. Although she had prepared herself mentally, she still couldn't be completely at ease when facing Fu Cinian for the first time since her rebirth.
She took a few quick steps toward the door and saw a man in a custom-made black suit, exuding a cold and aloof air. He seemed a little tired and was leaning against the shoe cabinet, his long fingers pinching his brow.
It must have been Su Jinyue's actions that startled him. His cold, threatening gaze shot straight at her, leaving Su Jinyue frozen in place, too afraid to move.
"Mr. Fu, hello, I am Su Jinyue."
Upon hearing Su Jinyue's self-introduction, Fu Cinian seemed to remember what had happened. His gaze towards Su Jinyue softened, as if he had relaxed his guard only after confirming that she posed no danger.
"Hmm," Fu Cinian responded to her, then got up as if no one else was there, changed his shoes, and walked inside.
Su Jinyue stepped aside, and as Fu Cinian passed by, she suddenly called out to him.
"Mr. Fu, I've made dinner. Would you like some?"
Fu Cinian stopped and turned slightly to look at Su Jinyue beside him, his eyes flashing with an inexplicable emotion that Su Jinyue could not understand.
Su Jinyue felt uneasy and was about to say that he didn't need to worry about her.
Fu Cinian suddenly replied with "okay," then loosened his tie, took off his coat, and walked straight toward the dining table.
He glanced at the food on the table, then raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised that Su Jinyue had cooked it so well.
Su Jinyue brought Fu Cinian a bowl and chopsticks, and the two ate quietly.
Su Jinyue picked at the rice in her bowl, secretly observing Fu Cinian sitting opposite her, but found that he seemed to be unwell and was eating very little.
After dinner, Su Jinyue cleaned up in the kitchen, while Fu Cinian sat in place, resting with his eyes closed.
Marrying a stranger, a woman he had only met once, was the most absurd decision he had ever made.
However, in less than a week, what happened almost overturned his previous understanding.
A few days ago, he was out on business when, just before his assistant Lu bumped into Su Jinyue, his head suddenly started to throb with pain. The pain was so intense, it felt like his soul was being torn apart, and he couldn't bear it.
It was because of his sudden physical discomfort that Assistant Lu panicked, mistakenly ran a red light, and bumped into Su Jinyue.
However, after meeting Su Jinyue, his headache suddenly disappeared, as if the previous excruciating pain was just an illusion.
Fu Cinian thought that his symptoms were just temporary and that he would be fine once the pain subsided.
Unexpectedly, after taking Su Jinyue to the hospital and starting the car, his headache returned.
Afterwards, Fu Cinian went to the hospital, but not the one Su Jinyue went to; instead, he went to another, more prestigious hospital in Kyoto.
But after all the necessary tests were done, the doctor told him that he had no problems.
Fu Cinian was so angry he almost laughed. He was so agitated by the sudden headache that he lost all his usual composure.
He questioned the doctor, who subtly suggested that he see a psychiatrist.
Fu Cinian knew his own situation. The examination showed no problems, which meant that he was fine. It was just that the headache came on very unexpectedly.
Fu Cinian endured the headache and persisted in working for two days. He was in so much pain that he couldn't sleep well at night. If it weren't for his strong willpower, he would have gone crazy.
But even someone as strong as Fu Cinian couldn't bear the torment for the past two days, and he even planned to go to the psychiatric department of the hospital for a checkup.
But just as he stepped into the gates of Kyoto Hospital, his headache suddenly vanished without a trace, and for a moment the world seemed to fall silent.
However, this period of time did not last very long, maybe a few seconds or a minute? Soon, the familiar headache returned.
Fu Cinian rubbed his temples; he didn't believe it was a coincidence.
He remembered that when he entered the hospital, a group of doctors were leading patients in at the same time, and he followed his memory in the direction that group had left.
