Chapter 13 The World of Dead Soul Island
Chapter 13 The World of Dead Soul Island
The new phone didn't have a screen lock, so Jiang Lin swiped the screen with his left hand while eating.
Not seeing the Dead Soul Island icon made Jiang Lin pause slightly, as if sensing something. He pressed the screen off button with his thumb and turned the screen back on. There, a black and white Dead Soul Island icon had appeared on the previously empty screen!
The process was incredibly smooth, with Jiang Lin showing no emotional reaction whatsoever, as if it were just a casual gesture during a meal.
Next, Jiang Lin logged into WeChat as usual. As soon as he entered the chat interface, he was bombarded with a series of messages.
Jiang Lin has always maintained excellent interpersonal relationships, avoiding excessive intimacy. While providing emotional value, she subtly guides others, offering help and care regardless of class or social circle. No one in this world can be liked by everyone, but Jiang Lin has won the affection of the vast majority.
It's less about personal charisma and more about effective management.
After spending some time calming everyone on WeChat, Jiang Lin opened the message from Wang Zhe.
Afternoon 15: 56
[Wang Zhe: Third brother, where are you?]
Afternoon 16: 13
[Wang Zhe: Are you awake? We've entered Dead Soul Island. I've added you as a friend.]
Afternoon 17: 40
[Wang Zhe: ???]
Jiang Lin had just typed one word when he was interrupted by a deep male voice beside him.
"Dead Soul Island?"
The newly bought phone didn't have a screen protector, and Ji Xingyi could see it clearly with just a casual glance.
Jiang Lin nodded and replied calmly, "It's a game. My roommate asked me to log on."
"Is it fun?" Ji Xingyi realized that since starting university, the two of them didn't seem as close as they were in high school.
Of course, this is not anyone's fault. The two are from different majors, and Ji Xingyi gradually entered the Ji family to train in his spare time. The two spent less and less time together, which naturally led to the estrangement of their relationship.
However, this disparity made Ji Xingyi extremely uncomfortable, and her entire aura underwent a noticeable change.
In this respect, men are vastly different from Jiang Lin.
Ji Xingyi would not hide anything from Jiang Lin, nor would she need to.
"It's quite interesting." Jiang Lin's smile held a deeper meaning, his eyes shimmering. "Do you want to play? There will be a little danger."
Zhang Hui: "What dangers could there be in playing games? Sudden death?"
"Hmm...it's hard to say." Jiang Lin gave a mysterious smile.
After dinner, Zhang Hui and Ji Xingyi returned to the hotel to rest.
After Jiang Lin was left alone in the large ward, she sent a message to Wang Zhe.
Wang Zhe replied to the message almost instantly and added Jiang Lin to a group chat, which also included Ding Xuehui.
Upon seeing the girl's profile picture, Jiang Lin remembered the note. Xingyi hadn't returned it to him after leaving, and it seemed he was genuinely angry.
Wang Zhe sent a voice message, his voice excited: "Third brother, Xuehui, hurry up and get into the game!"
Jiang Lin entered the game, and the screen immediately showed the results screen.
[The quest "Snake Fairy" has been successfully evacuated]
[Time taken: 7 hours, 46 minutes, and 12 seconds]
Rating: 4 stars (out of 5)
[Hidden Rating: Demon Egg]
[Points settlement: Survival days +26]
The preceding details were unimportant; Jiang Lin's gaze lingered on the last line.
Survival days?
What do you mean?
Death countdown?
A cold smile appeared on Jiang Lin's lips as he exited the settlement list and entered the main interface, where a black island was located in the center.
There is a bright red heart in the upper right corner, with the number 25 marked after it.
The bottom right corner shows the friend icon, which is currently flashing. Jiang Lin clicks on it to take a look.
[System notification: Player Wang Zhe has requested to add you as a friend.]
[Approved/Rejected]
Selected as passed.
Jiang Lin wasn't in a hurry to chat with Wang Zhe. Instead, he continued looking at the left side of the homepage, where there were three options: Role/Market/Task.
Clicking on the character reveals Jiang Lin's basic information, and allows you to view historical archives.
Open the market, where various items are sold. You need to use a certain number of hearts to complete the transaction.
Love? 25? Survival days increased by 26?
Jiang Lin instantly realized that the heart icon in the upper right corner represented the number of days he had survived. Since today had already started, he had 25 days left. The items in the market required a certain number of survival days to purchase.
“That’s interesting.” Jiang Lin’s eyes lit up.
Just then, a message popped up on WeChat, from Wang Zhe urging Jiang Lin to enter Dead Soul Island.
Jiang Lin turned his gaze to the mysterious black island in the center of the main page and touched it with his index finger.
Two options pop up: "Dead Soul Island" and "Start Game".
Jiang Lin clicked on [Dead Soul Island], and instantly felt as if lightning had struck his soul, causing him to tremble. The surrounding scenery shifted like bubbles, and a strange feeling of being suspended in mid-air surged into his heart. When his soul stabilized, he found himself stepping into an unfamiliar place.
This is a gray world.
Jiang Lin was standing on a black island.
The aura that hit me was strange in a way that was hard to describe; it was a mixture of decay and desolation.
It seems to be a war ruin submerged in the sea of time, a mysterious realm inaccessible to humankind.
"Jiang Lin!" A shout came from afar.
Jiang Lin narrowed his eyes slightly. It was Wang Zhe, with Ding Xuehui following behind him.
The two jogged over, and Wang Zhe punched Jiang Lin in the chest hard: "Are you alright, kid? Why did it take you so long to log on?"
"How did you know I was here?" Jiang Lin asked curiously.
Wang Zhe took out his phone: "Game friends can determine your coordinates. I can see it as soon as you log on."
Jiang Lin then noticed that he was still holding his phone after entering Dead Soul Island.
The game interface changed, and the screen became a map of Dead Soul Island. The most noticeable thing was the online status in the upper left corner: 17 people, which changed to 19 the next second.
This means that two more people have entered the world of Dead Soul Island.
"Come on, buddy, I'll show you around!" Wang Zhe put his arm around Jiang Lin's shoulder and headed towards the island.
The island wasn't particularly large, but it wasn't small either. After walking for ten minutes, the three arrived at a street reminiscent of an ancient Hua Kingdom. The bluestone slabs underfoot were icy cold, and a faint gray mist hung in the air.
A desolate and lonely atmosphere prevailed. A hint of bitterness seemed to linger on his lips as Jiang Lin encountered the first player besides the three of them.
The other person was a rugged-looking young man who stared at the three of them expressionlessly. Putting everything else aside, his demeanor and eyes alone told him he was not someone to be trifled with.
“Old player.” Wang Zhe lowered his voice: “Players can only enter Dead Soul Island after clearing the first dungeon. All expenses on Dead Soul Island are settled in Survival Coins, which are the survival days we gain each time we complete a dungeon.”
"Are there places on the island where I can spend money?" Jiang Lin was quite certain that his original body was still in the hospital, but he was not sure how he existed on Dead Soul Island.
Soul? Or just a connection of consciousness?
“Tavern, casino, witch doctor, and there’s a fortune teller in that room over there.” Wang Zhe led the two to a tavern.
Interestingly, the tavern is simply called "A Tavern".
There were two other players in the tavern, and their eyes were glued to Jiang Lin and his companions the moment they entered.
Wang Zhe coughed twice and deliberately chose a secluded corner.
