Chapter 97 Disagreements and Conflicts
Chapter 97 Disagreements and Conflicts
It has to be said that Lu He has made a huge splash this time. There is no one in the entire palace who doesn't know her.
That night, she refused the emperor's offer to appoint her as the national preceptor in the square of the Qiling Palace, which impressed many people. This girl was not interested in fame or fortune and must be a true master of seclusion.
"Your Highness," Lu He had returned to the Princess's bedchamber and was now standing behind Li Cen. "Why did you ask me to refuse the position of Imperial Preceptor?"
Recalling last night, she stood in the center of the scene, the center of attention, revered as a true god by everyone, showered with glory and favor. The emperor asked her, "Would you be willing to become the Grand Preceptor of my Xi Kingdom?"
She was full of confidence, even a little proud, and looked at Princess Li Cen on the high platform before answering the emperor. Li Cen, however, remained calm and shook her head without making a sound.
Make her refuse.
She frowned slightly, and although she didn't understand, she did as she was told.
Today, the Princess summoned her again, and she finally asked the question that had been bothering her. Last night was such a good opportunity; she had finally gotten the limelight, and the Emperor was even offering her a high position.
Why?
But she disagreed?
Li Cen did not turn around, but continued to tease the white parrot in the gold cage on the table.
"Your Highness the Eldest Princess?" Lu He was somewhat displeased. She called me over but ignored me, leaving me standing here to guess. Do all people from imperial families have this kind of bad habit?
Li Cen turned her head, pointed to the parrot in the cage, and asked, "Do you think it's cute?"
"It's quite cute." Lu He was puzzled and gave a perfunctory answer. She didn't know what Li Cen was up to now.
“Kill it…” Li Cen picked up the cage and handed it to Lu He.
"Huh?" Lu He was taken aback, mechanically reaching out to take the cage, but froze on the spot: "Your Highness, what did you say?"
"Kill it." Li Cen gave the order, word by word, in a calm tone.
"Are you kidding me?" Lu He forced a rather awkward smile, wondering if she had misheard.
"Kill it." The command remained calm and devoid of any emotion.
"Your Highness! Don't go too far!" Li Cen's attitude finally angered Lu He.
"Are you angry?" Seeing her anger, Li Cen smiled with a hint of sarcasm: "You're going to talk back to me for a bird? Are you out of your mind?"
"What do you want to do?" Lu He couldn't understand her, but she realized her lapse in composure: "Your Highness, this little bird is a life, how can you treat it so casually...! You!"
Before she could finish speaking, Li Cen suddenly reached into the cage, swiftly snapped the parrot's neck, and then calmly looked into her eyes.
"Li Cen!" Lu He exclaimed.
"How dare you address me by my given name!" Li Cen's calm tone carried the innate oppressive aura of an emperor.
Lu He stood there biting her lip. She was angry, shocked, and even more so, dissatisfied and disappointed with the Princess. How could this person be so cold-blooded?
Seeing no fear in Lu He's eyes, Li Cen was secretly pleased. As expected of the person he had chosen.
"You see, this is why you can't be the Imperial Advisor." Li Cen finally answered the question from the beginning.
"What do you mean?" Lu He really wanted to say, "Can't you just say what you mean? Why do you have to strangle that parrot? Doing such a cruel thing!"
“I know what you’re thinking. I want you to see it directly: you’re different from Liu Qi, and you’re different from all of us. You can’t be ruthless.” Li Cen sighed, then suddenly softened his tone: “I’ve long realized that for the palace, your kindness is a burden, something that will cost you your life.”
"Do you know how dirty the work Liu Qi had to do before? If you become the Grand Preceptor, the Crown Prince will have lost a hand that does dirty work, and he won't let you off the hook. Don't even think about joining my camp as the Grand Preceptor, because the position of Grand Preceptor is destined to be dirty. If you want to be clean, you will become a stumbling block for all of us."
“Thank you for considering my feelings, Your Highness, but you can tell me these things directly,” Lu He’s tone became distant, as if she had distanced herself from Li Cen: “Why must you personally shed blood for me to see?”
“Because I want you to know that I am the same! Unlike you!” Seeing her deliberate distancing, Li Cen felt a tightness in his chest. “The path of an emperor allows no mercy; it must be paved with blood… I am that kind of person, and I am destined to be this way…”
Li Cen raised her eyes and stared intently at Lu He, her eyes like deep, dark lakes, devoid of ripples or even a glimmer of light: "Are you still willing to follow me?"
