Chapter 27 The Mysterious Man in White Robes

Chapter Twenty-Seven: The Mysterious Man in White Robes

After assembling, the group followed Zhuo Yang into the dark tomb passage. As for their companion's body, it could only be left in the stone hall for now, to be taken back on their return.

The stone hall was plunged into darkness once again...

A few minutes later, a beam of light appeared, and after a rumbling sound, the Dragon-Slaying Stone at the entrance of the stone hall was forcibly raised.

A lithe figure emerged from the light, tall and elegant, dressed in a white robe with a hood covering her head, revealing only a silver mask, exuding an air of mystery.

"So many people have died, it seems there must be something good inside the ancient tomb!" He muttered softly, pinching the chin of the mask.

He then walked to the bodies of Cui Yi's two apprentices and three companions and squatted down.

He pressed his hands over the heads of the five corpses in turn, and golden light emerged from between his fingers...

"I'm giving you a wisp of Phoenix Essence to bless you so you can be reborn into good families in your next life." He murmured softly, his voice tinged with sorrow. "I'm sorry you suffered because of me. As the master of Phoenix Pavilion, I will never forget you."

As the voice faded, five blurry figures radiating golden light appeared. They clasped their hands in a salute before slowly dissipating.

Nodding, the mysterious man in white robes looked at the dark tomb passage opposite the stone hall and snorted softly, "Cui Yi led the team poorly; he must be punished when we get back!"

It turns out that Cui Yi and his group were all from the Phoenix Pavilion, and this agile and mysterious man was the Pavilion Master of the Phoenix Pavilion. However, Cui Yi was also a member of the Dragon Court, making his identity complicated.

With a flash of white robes, he rushed into the tomb passage at an extremely fast speed.

……

Zhuo Yang led the team through the deep and long tomb passage to the place where the tomb owner lived. There was nothing special here. In the several huge stone rooms, not much was preserved, and most of it had turned to dust.

"Master, this is amazing!"

Pan Jianbo ran out of a stone chamber, his arms full of gold, silver and jade artifacts.

Zhuo Yang looked at him and smiled, "A good harvest, you can sell it for a good price."

Pan Jianbo was overjoyed, but soon his smile froze on his face. He hurriedly threw the things in his arms onto the ground, making a clattering noise.

“Master, I, Pan Jianming, am no longer a tomb raider. I cannot take these things!” he said with a serious expression.

Zhuo Yang snorted: "You're smart to know what's good for you!"

If he dares to rob the tomb again, the moment Pan Jianbo walks out of the ancient tomb with the items will be the moment Zhuo Yang cuts ties with him.

It wasn't some kind of mental fastidiousness, but a test of character. Otherwise, Zhuo Yang wouldn't have entrusted such an important task as searching for fragments of the primordial spirit to a greedy person.

Pan Jianbo scratched his head and smiled thankfully, while Feng Rong next to him was much better off, having not taken anything at all.

Cui Yi walked over, carrying a load of belongings, and said with a wry smile, "Brother Zhuo Yang, this is just an ordinary ancient tomb. Is the tomb owner crazy, insisting on setting up a maze to trap people?"

“Yes, based on my many years of experience in tomb raiding, there’s nothing special about this place.” Pan Jianbo spoke with great confidence about his “professional knowledge.”

A group of people gathered around and began to sigh. It was such a dangerous situation, with so many people dying, and all they got was a Qiankun bag and a Cold Spring Iron Horse-Slaying Saber. Wasn't that a huge loss?

"Where did the villagers who entered the ancient tomb get their magical artifacts?" Zhuo Yang pondered for a while and discovered a great deal of doubt.

Cui Yi smiled bitterly and said, "There are no villagers at all. The one who discovered the ancient tomb was that cultivator. The story is made up. He tricked other cultivators into exploring the tomb with him, which resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen people. He himself was slippery and ran away."

"Where are they now?" Zhuo Yang asked again.

Cui Yi sighed, "He was seriously injured and died not long after. We didn't even find out what he encountered in the maze. Otherwise, we would have been prepared to deal with the horde of mummies before entering the ancient tomb."

Upon hearing this, Zhuo Yang frowned slightly, then said easily, "It seems that the treasures in the ancient tomb haven't been taken yet."

"Baby? What baby? We explored the entire tomb chamber!" Pan Jianbo scratched his head, looking completely bewildered.

His expression changed, and he excitedly asked, "Master, do you mean there's a hidden burial chamber inside this ancient tomb?"

There must be; otherwise, the spirits within the maze wouldn't be equipped with so many weapons forged from Cold Spring Iron. It's important to know that the only source of Cold Spring Iron is soaking it in a ten-thousand-year-old Cold Spring for a hundred years. Only by possessing a ten-thousand-year-old Cold Spring could one produce so much Cold Spring Iron.

Of course, it cannot be ruled out that the tomb owner obtained the Cold Spring Iron from elsewhere, but the probability that the Ten Thousand Year Cold Spring was in the ancient tomb is very high.

Zhuo Yang didn't mention the cold spring, but nodded mysteriously and said, "The maze set up by the tomb owner is extremely powerful. Ordinary cultivators wouldn't be able to get in. So what is he guarding? Just his own corpse? Besides, have we even found the tomb owner's corpse?"

"Could it be in the lobby at the entrance?"

Meng Xiaojun said something while looking thoughtful, and was then looked at with disdain by everyone, making him very embarrassed, but he still insisted, "Maybe his body was moved away..."

"Shut up, your logic is so messed up!" Su Hui pinched him, then looked at Zhuo Yang with admiring eyes, "Brother Zhuo Yang, whatever you say, we'll do it. It's so easy, we don't even have to think."

This statement was unanimously agreed upon by everyone. However, while agreeing, the mature and sophisticated Chen Guo quickly glanced at Su Hui and curled her lips into a smirk: "This little brat is quite cunning, taking the opportunity to curry favor with Zhuo Yang!"

Zhuo Yang didn't mince words. After revisiting each tomb chamber, he arrived at a stone wall on the north side. This wall appeared to be part of the mountain, but it was erected for aesthetic purposes when the tomb chambers were built.

Before anyone could ask, Zhuo Yang circulated his true energy and unleashed a Thunderfire Palm strike, slamming it against the wall in a seemingly ordinary manner.

There was no reaction at all...

Everyone stared blankly, thinking that Zhuo Yang was testing the wall.

But a few seconds later, a slight cracking sound of stone was heard, accompanied by the rumbling of the sliding iron chain.

"What's going on? Is it a police station?" Meng Xiaojun asked nervously.

The others didn't react as strongly as he did, but they were all shocked: How did Zhuo Yang discover that there was something wrong with this wall? This wall doesn't look special at all.

Zhuo Yang wouldn't tell them how powerful the Demon Eye was. He had been using the Demon Eye to observe the wall and discovered very fine frost formation. The frost would melt as it formed, making the wall somewhat damp.

A moment later, the wall made a cracking sound, and everyone immediately retreated a few meters. Then, with a loud bang, the wall collapsed, revealing a dark hole.

A cold wind swept over them, causing everyone to shiver in unison.

"It's so cold, what's inside?" Meng Xiaojun asked, rubbing his arms.

Everyone here is a cultivator, whose resistance to cold is much stronger than that of ordinary people. Yet, they were already shivering from the cold wind at the cave entrance. One can imagine how cold it must be inside the cave; even cultivators probably couldn't withstand it.

"Cui Yi, Chen Guo, you come in with me, the rest of you stay here." Zhuo Yang suppressed his excitement and stepped into the cave first.

Cui Yi and Chen Guo immediately threw off their miscellaneous belongings and followed him inside...
