The Road to Becoming a Son-in-Law

Chapter 187: Female Thief

Chapter 187: Female Thief

Chapter 187: Female Thief

"Do you see clearly?"

"I saw it clearly, I saw it clearly. A woman. I was busy with something at the time, and when I came back to the room a little while later, I found that the money bag I had put on the bedside table was gone. Then the window opened, and a woman jumped out of the window and ran away."

“Me too. I checked the inventory, and we’ve lost a lot of stuff,” another person said.

"They've gone into the warehouse? Doesn't that mean we've suffered heavy losses?" someone asked.

"It's not that bad. She only lost small items; she couldn't have stolen the larger ones."

People were buzzing with discussion, and Chen Feng heard everything clearly. A female thief had broken into the Martial Arts Academy and stolen a lot of valuables. The academy was doing everything in its power to catch her, but they hadn't found her yet.

"What kind of behavior is this, all this noise and chatter?" The dean appeared in the courtyard at some point, and seeing people running around and talking amongst themselves, he couldn't help but ask what had happened.

Someone walked up to the dean, clasped their hands in a fist and said, "Dean, something terrible has happened! A thief has broken into our martial arts academy, and a lot of things have been stolen."

The dean frowned, puzzled, and asked, "Did the thief see it?"

"I saw it. It was a woman, petite in stature."

"Have you caught them?" the dean asked again.

"Um...no."

The dean then asked, "Where is she now? Do you have any directions?"

"Um...no."

"Is she still at the academy?" the dean asked immediately afterward.

"Um...I don't know..."

"I don't know! How are you going to catch her? What if she's already escaped from the academy?" The dean was furious. He was angry at how brainless these people were. People were coming and going, making a ruckus, a huge commotion. Everyone in the academy—teachers, students—knew about the thief, and in the end, they couldn't catch her. If word got out, what would people think of the Martial Arts Academy? What would they think of us? Would the students dare to attend classes in peace after this?

Classes ended, and the students came out. The dean looked at everyone and said, "No one is allowed to speak for a moment. Watch my signals, and then you'll gradually disperse. Don't run away."

"Yes, Dean, we understand." People gradually dispersed to other places, not understanding why, but still following the dean's instructions.

The students had already heard the commotion outside and gathered around after class. "Dean, what's going on? They're shouting outside, 'Has a thief broken into our college?'"

"Yeah, Dean, what's that thief doing here? Will he hurt us? Is there any danger?"

"Yes, Dean, could you please tell me what exactly happened? Has the thief been caught? What if something happens to him?"

"Alright, everyone, quiet down and listen to me. The thief has been caught. He was just a petty thief who stole things out of greed. It's nothing serious, so don't worry." The dean spoke with a smile, calm and composed, appearing confident and assured.

Chen Feng glanced at the dean's performance while lying and couldn't help but secretly give him a thumbs up. Well, he lies without batting an eye. It seems he's done this kind of thing quite a bit. He's much more experienced than me. That's why people say, "Old ginger is spicier."

"Dean, they were just arguing a moment ago, and now they've been caught? So fast?" someone asked skeptically.

Chen Feng took a look and thought, "Hmm, not bad, his thinking is meticulous. Kids these days aren't so easily fooled."

The dean showed no surprise, maintaining his smile as if nothing had happened before him, and nodded slightly. "Indeed, they were just caught. They have locked the thief up and are preparing to interrogate him rigorously."

The students looked around and indeed, the place was packed with people just a moment ago, but now it was deserted. They must have been caught, otherwise people wouldn't have left.

"I think what the dean said is true. They must have caught them, otherwise why would people have dispersed?"

"Yes, that makes sense, they must have caught them."

The dean nodded. "Alright, children, go home now. See you tomorrow."

"Okay, goodbye Dean."

"Goodbye."

After the dean greeted the students, he watched them leave one by one.

Chen Feng walked up to the dean and gave him a thumbs up. "Dean, brilliant, absolutely brilliant."

The dean shook his head and sighed, "Alas, there's nothing we can do! A petty thief stealing some valuables may not pose a significant threat, but it can cause widespread panic. Fear itself is always far more terrifying than the object of fear."

Chen Feng nodded, agreeing with this point, as he had said the same thing. "If I were you, I would have done the same thing just now."

"Okay." The dean nodded. "Get some rest, you have teaching tomorrow." With that, the dean turned and left.

Chen Feng called out to his retreating figure, "What about the thief who stole things? Aren't we going to catch him?"

The dean didn't turn around. "Let's not arrest her. She's just a petty thief. We don't even know where she is. How can we arrest her? Let her go. Next time, she won't be so lucky."

Chen Feng nodded. The dean was a very wise person, but he wondered if this theft was related to Hua Rushang. Chen Feng shook his head. Probably not, after all, she didn't lack the money and had no reason to do something like this. But if it wasn't her, then who was it?

At night, after washing up, Chen Feng went to bed. In his daze, he seemed to be woken up by some noise.

Having experienced so much lately, especially these past two days with multiple assassination attempts and battles, Chen Feng hadn't had a proper night's sleep in a long time. The average person needs eight hours of sleep a day, and in a 24-hour day, roughly a third of a person's life is spent sleeping. This is unavoidable for everyone; when tired, one needs to rest, and a good, restful sleep is one of life's greatest pleasures.

Calm down, relax, ignore everything, and have a good night's sleep. From the moment Chen Feng descended the mountain to find the truth behind the Chen family's massacre, to his accidental joining of the Martial Arts Association, to his encounter with the little girl, to the assassination attempt, and finally today, these events have temporarily come to an end. By a twist of fate, Chen Feng has returned to the Martial Arts Academy as a teacher, finally having a job. Although there have been some minor hiccups, life has finally begun to return to normalcy. Working and earning money every day, with free time to arrange his rest – what a simple and pleasant ordinary life! Since descending the mountain, Chen Feng has rarely been able to sleep so soundly and carefree as he is today.

Chen Feng closed his eyes, his body relaxing completely, as if he had no boundaries, merging with all things in the world, feeling comfortable, at ease, and free. He wanted to have a good sleep, but then he turned over, as if something was wrong, as if there was some noise, as if someone was watching him.
