Chapter 478 Admission Notice
Chapter 478 Admission Notice
The sound of a tractor horn came from the village entrance, interrupting the family's farewell.
"It's time to go," Lin Zhi wiped her eyes. "Don't see me off, just stay home and take care."
Li Xiangyang shook his head: "How can I not see you off? Come on, I'll carry your bag."
The family surrounded Linzhi and walked towards the village entrance.
Several people were already on the tractor, all heading to the city. When the driver saw Lin Zhi arrive, he greeted her, "Sister Lin, please get on."
Lin Zhi nodded, turned around and took one last look at her family: "You should go back. Don't stand here, it's cold."
Li Xiangyang helped his mother onto the tractor and instructed her, "If anything happens, just let us know, and I'll come to the city to pick you up anytime."
Lin Zhi nodded and waved goodbye to her family.
The tractor slowly started, trailing thick smoke as it drove out of the village and disappeared at the end of the road leading to the town.
Standing on his father's shoulders, Li Wangchen waved his little hand repeatedly, saying, "Goodbye, Grandma!"
Li Xiangyang watched the tractor disappear into the distance, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
Since his rebirth, he has always wanted to give his family a better life. Now his mother has a stable job in the city, his younger sister is about to go to university, and life is moving in a positive direction.
“Alright, let’s go home,” Li Xiaoyun said, pulling her husband’s hand. “It’s time to prepare lunch.”
After returning home, Li Xiaohua seemed somewhat absent-minded, glancing out the window from time to time.
Li Xiangyang noticed his younger sister's unusual behavior and asked, "Xiaohua, what's wrong? Do you miss your mother?"
Li Xiaohua shook her head, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "Brother, the acceptance letters should be sent out soon, right?"
Li Xiangyang suddenly realized, and smiled as he ruffled his sister's hair: "Don't worry, with your grades, you'll definitely get into a good university. Just wait a little longer, it should be soon."
"Hmm," Li Xiaohua pursed her lips, "I'm just a little nervous."
Li Xiangyang patted his sister's shoulder: "Don't worry, no matter the outcome, we'll find a way."
As the days went by, Li Xiaohua became increasingly anxious. Every morning, the first thing she did was run to the village entrance to see if there was a postman.
One morning, Li Xiaohua returned home disappointed once again and was sighing in the yard.
"Auntie Xiaohua!" Li Wangchen ran towards her, holding a bamboo flute in his hand. "Will you teach me to play the flute?"
Li Xiaohua forced a smile: "Okay, come on, Auntie will teach you."
She took the bamboo flute, gently placed it to her lips, and played a melodious tune. Li Wangchen opened his eyes wide, looking at his aunt with admiration.
Just as Li Xiaohua was teaching her nephew how to hold the flute correctly, the sound of a bicycle bell came from the village entrance.
"The postman is here!" someone shouted, and Li Xiaohua's heart skipped a beat.
She ignored the bamboo flute in her hand and pulled Li Wangchen towards the village entrance.
A crowd had already gathered at the village entrance, all waiting to receive their mail. The postman took a stack of letters out of his bag and began calling out names one by one.
Li Xiaohua stood nervously in the crowd, her palms sweating.
"Li Xiaohua!" The postman's voice made her look up abruptly.
"Here!" She practically jumped as she rushed to the postman.
The postman handed her a yellow envelope: "For you."
Li Xiaohua took the envelope with both hands, her hands trembling slightly. The envelope was printed with the words "XX University," and her heart pounded even harder.
She eagerly tore open the envelope and took out the paper inside.
Congratulations on your admission to the Chinese Literature Department of our university...
Upon seeing these words, Li Xiaohua's eyes instantly welled up with tears. She covered her mouth, too moved to speak.
"Auntie, what is it?" Li Wangchen asked curiously, tilting his little face up.
Li Xiaohua knelt down and hugged her nephew tightly: "Auntie got into university!"
……
Li Xiaohua got into university! This is a big deal in the village.
The news spread like wildfire throughout Xiaoliang Village.
The villagers gathered in small groups, discussing the exciting news.
For most people, university remains a distant dream, so witnessing someone in the village achieve that dream is an exciting thing.
Laughter and cheerful voices filled Li Xiangyang's courtyard.
Several elders and neighbors from the village came to offer their congratulations, praising Li Xiaohua for being smart and sensible, and saying she was the pride of the village.
"Xiao Hua, you've really brought honor to our village!" Old Party Secretary Zhang, leaning on his cane, sat on the kang (a heated brick bed) with a broad smile. Although he was advanced in years, he made a special trip to Li Xiangyang's house to offer his congratulations.
"Yes, this child has been smart and meticulous since he was little. He's sure to be successful in the future!" said Dr. Qian from the village with a smile.
Li Xiaohua was a little embarrassed, her face slightly flushed: "It's all thanks to my mother, brother, and sister-in-law's support..."
"Alright, stop being modest," Li Xiangyang interrupted his sister with a smile. "Today is your big day, I'll go kill a chicken, and we'll celebrate properly!"
"I'll go help!" Li Daqiang also stood up and enthusiastically followed Li Xiangyang out of the house.
In the courtyard, Li Xiangyang skillfully slaughtered and plucked a chicken, while Li Daqiang helped by handing him tools; the two worked together seamlessly.
"Xiangyang, Xiaohua getting into university is a great joy for our Li family!" Li Daqiang said with emotion as he helped her.
Li Xiangyang nodded, his eyes filled with pride: "Yes, Xiaohua was so anxious these past two days, but now her wish has finally come true."
“My daughter Xiaoxue will have to learn from Xiaohua,” Li Daqiang said, a smile spreading across his face. “When she’s older, I’ll have to support her education.”
Li Xiangyang patted his cousin on the shoulder: "That's for sure. The country is paying more attention to education now, and children have more opportunities."
As the two were talking, Wang Ergou rushed in, carrying a lively rooster in his hand.
"Oh my, I heard Xiaohua got into university, so I came right away with a gift!" Wang Ergou panted, holding up the rooster in his hand. "This is the strongest one I've ever raised, specially for Xiaohua to celebrate!"
Looking at his longtime friend, Li Xiangyang felt a warmth in his heart: "You really are... Come in and sit down, everyone's here."
Wang Ergou grinned and handed the rooster to Li Xiangyang: "Here, go kill the chicken. I'll go inside and check on Xiaohua first."
Inside the room, Li Xiaohua had just finished explaining the situation at the university when Li Xiaoyun was pouring tea for everyone.
Seeing Wang Ergou enter, Li Xiaohua stood up to greet him.
……
At lunchtime, three tables were set up at Li Xiangyang's house.
Chicken, pork, and game stews—a variety of fragrant dishes filled the table.
Li Xiangyang raised his glass and stood in the center of the courtyard: "Thank you all for coming to my home today to congratulate Xiaohua on getting into university. This glass is for you all!"
"We should be the ones respecting you!" Dr. Qian said with a smile. "Our village has produced a college student; you, as the older brother, deserve a lot of credit."
As everyone raised their glasses and laughed, Li Xiaohua's eyes reddened, and she quietly took her brother's hand.
"Xiaohua is a little excited today," Li Xiangyang explained with a smile. "Come on, everyone, don't be shy, eat more!"
