Chapter 298 Golden Eagle, I've seen it before!
After descending the mountain, everyone's mood gradually calmed down.
"Xiaohua, Xiaoying," Li Xiangyang slowed his pace and said softly, "Let's not tell your sister-in-law about what happened on the mountain. She's pregnant now and needs to stay calm. She'll be worried and scared if she hears we encountered wild boars."
Li Xiaohua nodded, and said sensibly, "I understand, brother. I won't tell."
Wang Ying nodded in understanding: "Don't worry, Xiangyang. I definitely won't tell."
Wang Ergou smiled and patted the two little girls on the head: "What sensible and good children."
As they walked, the two little girls recovered from the ordeal and began chatting and laughing.
"Brother Xiangyang," Wang Ying asked softly, "Do you often encounter wild boars when you hunt?"
“Sometimes we do encounter them,” Li Xiangyang replied. “There are all sorts of wild animals in the mountains, which is why we don’t usually let you go in.”
"Can we go hunting with you next time?" Li Xiaohua asked excitedly.
Li Xiangyang and Wang Ergou exchanged a smile. Li Xiangyang shook his head: "Hunting is too dangerous; I can't take you. When you're older, I can teach you about the plants in the mountains and where to go safely."
"But I want to learn how to hunt," Li Xiaohua persisted. "I want to be as good as my brother."
"We'll talk about it when you're older," Li Xiangyang patted his younger sister's head. "For now, just focus on your studies."
Wang Ying, however, appeared more rational: "Xiangyang is right, Xiaohua. We should first learn the basics and understand the laws of nature so that we can better protect ourselves in the future."
Li Xiangyang gave Wang Ying an approving look: "Xiao Ying is right, knowledge is the most fundamental thing."
The journey down the mountain was much easier than the journey up. Despite carrying heavy loads of venison, Li Xiangyang and Wang Ergou walked with much lighter steps.
Back in the village, they parted ways in front of Wang Ergou's house.
Wang Ergou took his share of venison, while Li Xiangyang took the two girls home.
Seeing them return safely, Li Xiaoyun's face was full of smiles: "How was it? Was it fun on the mountain?"
"This is so much fun!" Li Xiaohua exclaimed excitedly. "We saw so many strange flowers and plants!"
Wang Ying nodded, "The air on the mountain is so fresh, much better than in the city."
The two girls tacitly avoided mentioning the wild boar, and Li Xiangyang was secretly grateful.
"Why did you come back so quickly?" Li Xiaoyun asked as she helped unload the venison.
Li Xiangyang made up an excuse on the spot: "It's hot, and I was worried the children would get sunburned, so I came down the mountain early."
Li Xiaoyun nodded and did not ask any further questions.
Li Xiangyang arranged the venison, picked out a few of the best pieces, and said, "I'll take some to my sister."
“Okay, go ahead,” Li Xiaoyun replied. “It’s a good opportunity for her to try something new.”
Li Xiangyang brought venison to Li Guihua's house and knocked on the door.
Li Guihua opened the door and, seeing it was her younger brother, smiled and invited him in: "What good things have you brought this time?"
"Venom," Li Xiangyang handed the wrapped meat to his sister, "It was caught yesterday, have a taste."
Li Guihua took the venison and exclaimed in surprise, "You silly child, Xiaoyun just gave us chicken and rabbit, and now you've hunted deer! Such valuable food should be kept for your own family."
"Sister, what are you saying?" Li Xiangyang laughed. "We can't possibly finish all of this at home. Besides, we're family."
Li Guihua's eyes were a little red, and she pursed her lips: "Xiangyang, I'm so lucky to have such a good younger brother like you."
Li Xiangyang sat at his sister's house for a while, and noticing that Xiaolan wasn't there, he asked, "Where's Xiaolan?"
“She went to her friend’s house to play,” Li Guihua replied. “That child is quite sensible, but sometimes she still misses her dad.”
Li Xiangyang nodded, feeling sorry for his sister and niece's situation: "Sister, if there's anything you need help with, just let me know."
“I know,” Li Guihua smiled. “Go ahead and get busy. I’m doing quite well now.”
After saying goodbye to his sister, Li Xiangyang returned home. In the yard, Li Xiaoyun was busy picking vegetables. When she saw her husband return, a gentle smile appeared on her face.
"Have you finished delivering them?" Li Xiaoyun put down the bamboo basket and asked softly.
Li Xiangyang nodded and took the vegetable basket from her hand: "Yes, I've delivered them all. I feel a little bad about it, sister; I'm thinking of making some clothes for the kids."
“We’re family, there’s no need to worry about each other,” Li Xiaoyun said with a smile. “I’m planning to sew her a new dress tomorrow; her summer shirt is getting old.”
"You need to be careful not to overwork yourself," Li Xiangyang said gently. "I'll do any work."
"Oh dear, here we go again. I'm perfectly fine." Li Xiaoyun pouted, but her eyes were full of gratitude for her husband's concern. "Besides, are you good at making clothes?"
When Li Xiaoyun asked him this, Li Xiangyang chuckled awkwardly and didn't reply.
He knows his own situation best. Making a leather jacket might be acceptable, but making everyday clothes would be absolutely hideous.
At this moment, Li Xiaohua and Wang Ying were chasing Xiao Hu, circling around in the yard.
Little Tiger has grown much stronger, with glossy fur and bright, lively eyes. His stamina has also increased significantly; he runs around like crazy without even panting, while the two little girls are quite exhausted.
"Be careful not to fall," Li Xiangyang reminded her, putting down the vegetable basket, drawing a bucket of water from the well, and helping Li Xiaoyun wash the vegetables.
"Brother Xiangyang, Sister Xiaoyun," Wang Ying ran over, her cheeks flushed, "The weather's so nice right now, can I make a kite?"
“Of course,” Li Xiangyang said with a smile. “After we eat, I’ll find you some willow branches.”
"Great!" Wang Ying clapped her hands happily, her eyes full of anticipation.
Li Xiaohua chimed in, "Brother, have you ever seen a golden eagle when you were hunting? I want to make a kite like that."
"A golden eagle? I've not only seen them before, your Uncle Er Gou even keeps one. I'll take you to see it after we eat."
Upon hearing this, the two little girls immediately jumped up excitedly and couldn't wait to discuss the kite.
As night fell, Li Xiangyang and Li Xiaoyun worked together to prepare a large table of dishes, including chicken, rabbit, and venison, which was quite abundant.
"Xiaoyun, eat more meat," Li Xiangyang said, placing a piece of tender venison in Li Xiaoyun's bowl. "Venison replenishes qi and blood, which is good for the baby."
Li Xiaoyun smiled and accepted her husband's kindness, then added a piece for each of the two little girls: "You two should eat more; you're growing."
"Sister-in-law, this venison is even more delicious than pork," Li Xiaohua exclaimed as she ate. "I wish I could eat it every day."
Wang Ying nodded and whispered, "Thank you, Brother Xiangyang and Sister Xiaoyun. The food at your house is much better than in the city."
Li Xiaoyun patted Wang Ying's head: "Silly child, why are you being so polite with us?"
