Chapter 334: Rage.
Chapter 334: Rage.
Valerian rushed through the woods and quickly arrived at the spot where Valerie and Anne were. He rushed close to the spot and found Valerie standing behind Anne as the mare fended off a few attacks from a horde of bandits. The young man sighed as he dashed over and said, "Vali."
The girl turned around quickly and cried, "Big brother, these are bad people, they hurt that big tree and took him inside a magic box, and Anne is also in trouble."
Rage condensed in Valerian’s eyes. He walked over, and his gaze shifted to a group of soldiers. They all wore crimson armor with a silver symbol of the Tyrant’s empire. The soldiers had stopped acting when Valerian arrived and began to assess the newcomer.
Valerian patted Anne and said, "You did well. Take rest."
Anne nodded slowly and backed away to stand with Valerie, who hugged her leg and sobbed. Valerian cast an earth wall to surround the two lives. He searched the surroundings and asked, "So, would you let the dryad go?"
The forest was silent, and only Valerian’s voice echoed around. The soldiers all raised their swords. They could tell that Valerian was not an easy opponent. The one who stood in the front said, "Are you the one who captured our leader?"
Valerian tilted his hand and asked, "Are you talking about the woman responsible for the slave trafficking?"
The leader said, "I do not know, but she is a lady of grace and dignity."
Valerian could not help but chuckle loud. He held his stomach and said, "You all sure have some twisted sense of dignity and grace. Oh, lords, you are funny. Are you sure they did not send you here to perform a comedy act and tell jokes to kill people?"
The soldier condensed his battle aura around the sword edge and said, "Last warning, hand her over, and you are free to go."
Valerian crossed his arms and touched his chin as he asked, "What about my sister and Anne?"
The soldier said, "That girl will have to die. She attacked one of our men. The honor of our knights is not to be belittled."
Valerian nodded and said, "So, you are saying you will kill the child because she defended herself?
The soldier nodded and waited for Valerian’s action, which shocked him. The young man had taken out two swords in his hand, and the blades were covered in a red layer of battle aura. He opened his mouth and mumbled, "Caligo Umbrae."
A dark smog covered the surroundings completely. At this moment, Haista and a few warrior knights arrived. They spotted Valerie and Anne standing at a spot. However, when a warrior was about to step forward, Haista said, "Don’t move. They have a protective circle around them."
The people noticed the ground, and they all flinched when they heard a scream from the dark smog. One of the people asked, "What sort of smoke is this?"
Haista said, "Shadow element spell, Mist of shadow, covers a wide area and leaves anyone but the caster with complete blindness."
The people were surprised because wide-range spells were hard to cast and took a lot of experience. The screams increased, and the knights had cold sweat covering their faces. They did not expect this child to be so cruel. The screams lasted for ten good minutes before there were only groans left.
The dark mist receded, and Valerian appeared, standing amidst the corpses of the warriors. The scene made the Knights Of Mercy pale, and some faint-hearted fellows even overturned their stomachs. Valerian did not kill the people. He decapitated them like a butcher would slaughter a lamb.
Haista mumbled under his breath, "Vita bless him."
However, he noticed that the enemy still had their armor intact. On the other hand, Valerian was covered in cuts. His habit had been shredded, and his swords were chipped. However, the young man stood his ground. He turned around, grabbed two groaning men, and looked at Haista as he asked, "Commander, would you like to come with me for a moment?"
Haista was taken aback but nodded. Valerian looked at Valerie and said, "Stay here. I will be back."
The little girl was sensible and nodded while holding onto Anne’s leg. She was terrified just now when the soldiers attacked. She had no power to stop them as they walked through the traps set by Valerian. Olivis was also entangled with one before he was beaten and taken into custody. They would have died if not for Anne’s loud call and the attack in self-defense, Inte of despair. She cast a flame spell with the dagger in her possession.
Valerian arrived at the right time to rescue her. In contrast, a few girls tried to console Valerie. Haista and the silver-haired monk dragged two men to a secluded place, and Valerian said, "Tell me what is your purpose here, or I will give you a death so slow that you might end up revolting against that coward."
The guards might not have their arrogant demeanor now, but they were still loyal to the Tyrant. Valerian smiled at them and then picked up the person beside the leader. The young man then used his knife to undo the armor slowly and then placed the man on the ground to lie on his stomach.
Valerian stabbed the tip of his dagger against the person’s spine and said to the leader, "Tell me your name, and we will have a conversation."
The man shook his head, refusing to comply, and Valerian drew a clean incision along the soldier’s spine under his knife. Valerian said, "You are loyal to the wrong man here. Look at the soldier here. He has been with you through thick and thin, probably even covering your mistakes and saving your life. Yet, here you are, thinking about covering for the man who killed his friend to gain terror and fears worldwide. In the name of Vita, have some courage."
The leader did not crumple, but Valerian did not stop. He performed his favorite flying eagle torture method, and Haista doubted why he was called over when the leader caved in, "I will tell you everything. Just stop."
Valerian stopped and said, "Commander, you might want to ask him why the close guards of the Tyrant are here guarding that fox. What is so special about her?"
Haista was surprised and asked, "You mean to say that these people are all the guards of the Tyrant?"
Valerian nodded and gestured for the old man to step forward and interrogate. The guard leader reported his name to be Sylvane. This guy was the leader of the secret guards sent by the Tyrant to the southern continent to protect the hounds and aid them when faced with any difficulties or life threats.
Haista asked, "How many of you are there?"
The leader replied, "This one batch was all we had."
His voice was filled with disappointment and regret. Haista was surprised and asked, "Wouldn’t your failure affect all the other men sent by the tyrant?"
The leader shook his head, "Only the leader was sent here from the eastern continent. The rest are the people she recruited from the natives here and trained them for fifteen years."
Valerian raised his head and asked, "What is this woman’s relationship with the Tyrant?"
The leader sighed and said, "She is one of three shadow generals. Her skills are manipulative, and do not judge her by her face. She is at least sixty years old."
Haista furrowed his brow and said, "A witch of the east. They are rare to find."
Valerian did not know what these witches were in the old man’s mouth. The young man said, "Hmmm, so she must have much information about the tyrant on her."
The leader nodded, and Valerian smiled. Haista knew that the woman would not be spared. The aura radiated from this silver-haired monk was so terrible that an old warrior like Haista was shocked and somewhat scared.
Valerian and the old man wrung everything out of Sylvane, and the old man sighed as he said, "To think we stumbled upon someone like this. The merit may be able to offset your sins of killing."
The young man shook his head and said, "No, I will walk down the flames if I have to, but I am not going to use my merit to escape my mistake."
Haista was shocked and said, "You might die from the second trial. It is not necessary that you will survive the trial. Are you sure?"
Valerian nodded and said, "Those who commit crimes should not be ashamed or scared of the punishment that follows. That is just cowardice and cowards..."
Haista picked up the line and said, "Cannot be merciful."
That said, Valerian stood up and with a clean wind slash the head of the wailing soldier was lopped off, and then the young man did the same for Sylvane.
