Chapter 1989 Unexpected Answer
Chapter 1989 Unexpected Answer
Yan Ruyu followed Huo Changhe into the room. As soon as she stepped down, she glanced at the bed.
Two figures were trapped in the quilt. The man was lying on his side with his forearm hanging outside the quilt, and the woman had her back to the door with part of her calf exposed on the edge of the quilt.
Clothes were scattered on the ground. The silk skirt was wrinkled and stained with half a fallen pearl flower, obviously torn off in a hurry.
She raised her eyebrows slightly. These two people were doing something unspeakable just now, so they must be naked.
She raised her eyes to look at Huo Changhe, and saw that his brows were slightly furrowed, and his eyes fell on the clothes on the ground. Then she knew what was going on: this quilt must have been pulled up by him after he came in.
She looked at the woman - this was exactly the person she was looking for, the woman who had taken a liking to Huo Changhe and had repeatedly shown her affection to him in the dungeon of the Water Temple last time.
Later, for some reason, although he could have escaped, he did not leave, but instead came to the governor's mansion.
Yan Ruyu withdrew her gaze and looked at the man's face again. His features were strong, but he did not look like Ding Hengshou.
Yan Ruyu's heart skipped a beat and she thought to herself: This woman is really brave. She dares to do this kind of thing with another man on Ding Hengshou's territory. Isn't she afraid of being caught?
"Separate the trials." Huo Changhe pointed at the two people on the bed, "To prevent collusion after they wake up. You interrogate the woman, and I'll question the man."
Yan Ruyu retracted her gaze and nodded in response, "Okay, the girl is mine."
As he said this, he walked forward, bent down, pulled over the thin blanket, and wrapped the woman tightly, leaving only her head exposed.
He picked up two close-fitting silk clothes from the ground and stuffed them into the quilt. He reached out and grabbed the woman's waist, and with a little effort, he lifted her up.
The quilt was wrapped tightly around her, and the woman's body was so soft that it seemed as if she had no bones. She carried her on her shoulders without making any sound.
There was no light in the woodshed, only a little moonlight leaking in through the skylight. Yan Ruyu put the woman on the ground, pinched out a three-inch-long silver needle from the air, aimed it at the acupuncture point under the woman's tiger's mouth, and inserted it without hesitation.
"Ugh!" The woman's brows suddenly twisted into knots, a groan of pain escaped from her throat, and her eyes suddenly opened.
At first, his eyes were a little dazed, but when he saw the person standing in front of him clearly, his pupils suddenly shrank and he opened his mouth to shout.
Yan Ruyu played with the dagger, the cold blade flashing in the moonlight.
Her voice was as cold as ice: "If you scream, I will stab you."
The woman's body froze instantly, and her struggling hands and feet dared not move.
She blinked, tears rolled down the corners of her eyes, wetting the rouge on her cheeks, and she looked scared and aggrieved.
Yan Ruyu released the hand that was pressing on her mouth, but did not move the dagger away. The blade was still against her skin, and she could clearly feel the rolling of her throat.
"Let me ask you, who are you?" Yan Ruyu's voice was flat, and no emotion could be heard. "What is your relationship with the man in your bed?"
Yan Ruyu couldn't quite remember whether she asked this woman's name when she first met her.
The woman bit her lip and her eyes flickered, as if she wanted to speak but was afraid of saying the wrong thing.
She secretly raised her eyes to glance at Yan Ruyu, and saw that Yan Ruyu's eyes were frighteningly cold, with the dagger still at the side of her neck. She quickly lowered her head and said in a voice as thin as a mosquito: "I... I am the servant of Governor Ding, my name is Chuntao. That man... that man is..."
"What is it?" Yan Ruyu pressed, applying a little pressure with her fingers, bringing the dagger even closer. "Don't beat around the bush with me, tell me the truth."
Chun Tao shuddered, as if frightened by the coldness of the blade, and said quickly, "It's...it's Governor Ding's men, named Ali. We...we are..."
She stopped talking halfway, her eyes drifting away, not daring to look at Yan Ruyu.
Yan Ruyu squatted down, looking Chuntao in the eye, and said with a hint of pressure, "You're on Ding Hengshou's territory, secretly hanging out with his men. Aren't you afraid that Ding Hengshou will find out?"
When Ding Hengshou was mentioned, Chuntao's face turned pale instantly and her eyes were full of fear.
She shook her head, her lips trembling: "No... I dare not, we dare not steal, I don't want to die."
"Then why do you dare to do this here?" Yan Ruyu asked.
Chuntao bit her lower lip, as if hesitating whether to say it or not.
Seeing this, Yan Ruyu turned her wrist slightly and gently scratched the side of her neck with the dagger. Although the skin was not broken, Chuntao's nerves were instantly tense.
She quickly said, "We are not having an affair, it's not what you think."
Yan Ruyu stared into her eyes, trying to tell from her eyes whether she was lying.
Chuntao's eyes were flustered and she didn't dare to look at her. She didn't seem to be lying, but she always felt that there was something else she hadn't said.
She was silent for a moment, then asked, "If it's not an affair, then what is it?"
Chuntao lowered her head and tears fell from her eyes.
Yan Ruyu frowned, feeling that things were not that simple. Chuntao's mood was a little strange and hard to describe.
Ding Hengshou's people dared to stalk him in his territory, without even thinking of finding a secluded place. Isn't this courting death?
She glanced at Chuntao and saw that she was still frightened, so she slowed down her tone and said, "I know you are afraid, but if you tell the truth, I might be able to spare your life. If you dare to lie to me, you should know the consequences."
Chun Tao raised her head, her eyes full of doubt and uncertainty: "You...can you really forgive me?"
"As long as you tell the truth," Yan Ruyu nodded, "I will keep my word."
Chuntao was silent for a moment, as if weighing the pros and cons.
After a while, she took a deep breath, as if she had made up her mind, and said, "Actually...actually, we did this today because Governor Ding ordered us to do so.
Ali, he was the one who found it for me, not me..."
Yan Ruyu raised her eyebrows, not expecting this answer.
It was so unbelievable that she felt like she was hallucinating.
What kind of magic answer is this?
She gave a short laugh: "Are you kidding me?"
"No, no, I don't dare," Chun Tao quickly shook her head. "I'm telling the truth. I was chosen to be the Dragon Girl, so I have to spend twelve consecutive nights with men..."
She paused and didn't elaborate on the rest of the words.
"However, Governor Ding has been very busy with official duties these past two days, and he seems to be in a bad mood. He really doesn't have the energy... so, he went to find Ali."
Yan Ruyu found it unbelievable. Chuntao's words sounded true, but she couldn't believe it completely.
She glanced at Chuntao and said, "I'll find out if you're telling the truth. If I find out you're lying to me, you know the consequences."
After saying that, she stood up, put away the dagger, took out a rope, tied Chuntao's hands and blocked her mouth.
"Stay here. If I find you restless, you'll be in trouble."
Chuntao nodded.
Yan Ruyu turned and walked out of the woodshed, ready to see how the interrogation was going on with Huo Changhe.
