Chapter 946 Vigilance

Chapter 946 Vigilance

Genos was polite to Zhang Hai, but also wary. Every time they met, he would scan Zhang Hai with his mechanical eye, then frown as if wondering about something.

“Your physical data… is strange.” Genos finally couldn’t help but say one time, “My scan results show that you are just an ordinary person, but my intuition tells me that you are not.”

Zhang Hai smiled but didn't say anything.

Saitama, who was playing a game nearby, said without turning his head, "Genos, stop judging people with your machine. Some people you have to see with your eyes."

Genos paused for a moment, then nodded: "Yes, teacher."

Days passed by like this.

Every morning, Zhang Hai would go to the ruins to scavenge for usable items. He would return at noon and eat instant noodles with Saitama. In the afternoon, he would watch Saitama train Genos or play video games together. At night, they would each go back to their rooms to sleep.

It was as bland as a glass of plain water.

Sometimes Zhang Hai would think that if things continued like this, it might not be so bad.

There is no war, no conspiracy, no village to protect, and no mission to complete. There are instant noodles when you're hungry, tap water when you're thirsty, and someone to play games with when you're bored.

Although I can't go back to my original world, this place feels like home.

Until that morning, everything was shattered.

That morning, Zhang Hai was awakened by a loud explosion.

He opened his eyes and saw flames shooting into the sky outside the window. That was the direction of Saitama's house.

He jumped off the mattress and rushed out of the house.

Room 301 next door was now a ruin. A large hole had been blasted in the wall, flames leaping out and thick smoke billowing. Saitama stood outside the ruins, wearing his yellow pajamas, his face expressionless.

Genos stood beside him, his arms already in battle stance, his mechanical eyes flashing red.

"What's wrong?" Zhang Hai asked.

“We have guests,” Saitama said.

As soon as he finished speaking, a series of heavy footsteps echoed from the ruins.

A huge figure emerged from the flames.

It was a gorilla—or more accurately, a gorilla dressed in a combat suit and walking upright. It was covered in metal armor, and carried a giant Gatling gun on its shoulder, the barrel still smoking.

“Found them.” The gorilla said in a deep voice, “S-class hero Genos, and his teacher, Saitama. According to the House of Evolution’s intelligence, you two are suitable test subjects.”

Genos stepped forward, blocking Saitama's path: "Who are you?"

"I am the Armored Gorilla, an elite warrior of the House of Evolution." The gorilla raised his Gatling gun. "I am here to capture you. If you resist, kill me on the spot."

Genos's robotic arm began to store energy: "Let's give it a try."

Battle is imminent.

But just then, a sharp sound came from the sky.

"Wait, gorilla, don't be in such a hurry."

A giant mosquito fell from the sky.

No, that's not a mosquito. It's the upper body of a woman combined with the lower body of a mosquito. She has a seductive face and a voluptuous figure, but below the waist is a huge insect body, and her transparent wings shimmer with an eerie blue light in the sunlight.

"Mosquito Woman," Genos's voice grew even more serious, "a Dragon-level monster."

Mosquito Girl landed next to the gorilla, licked her lips, and looked at Genos with greedy eyes: "The energy on this robot is so tempting. Gorilla, he's mine."

“No,” the gorilla said. “He is the live specimen that the doctor specifically requested.”

"Then let's see who has the best skills," the Mosquito Girl chuckled. "Whoever catches it first gets to keep it."

As they spoke, more than a dozen strange creatures emerged from the shadows of the ruins. Some resembled mutated frogs, others lizards with arms and legs, and still others were simply wriggling lumps of flesh. They emitted various bizarre cries and surrounded the three of them.

“These are all experimental subjects from the House of Evolution,” Genos said in a low voice. “Teacher, I’ll deal with them. You go ahead.”

Saitama yawned: "Go? Go where? I haven't had breakfast yet."

Zhang Hai stood to the side, watching those strange people.

His eyes were calm.

It's like when you're on a mission in the Naruto world and you're looking at those clueless enemies.

“Jenos,” he suddenly spoke, “you protect your teacher.”

Genos was taken aback: "What?"

Zhang Hai took a step forward.

He was wearing that faded gray short-sleeved shirt, and his worn-out sneakers. His hair was a mess, and he looked like a homeless man who had just woken up.

But the moment he took that step, all the strange men felt an inexplicable sense of oppression.

The mosquito woman's wings stopped vibrating.

The gorilla lowered the muzzle of its Gatling gun.

The little monsters retreated, emitting uneasy hissing sounds.

"Who...who are you?" The Mosquito Woman's voice changed.

Zhang Hai did not answer.

He simply looked at the group of strange people in front of him as if they were ants blocking his way.

“The House of Evolution, is it?” he said. “It sounds like a noisy place.”

He raised one hand.

Blue chakra condensed in his palm, rapidly spreading throughout his body to form a gigantic skeleton. Then, flesh, armor, and wings grew from the skeleton—Susanoo reappeared, a fifty-meter-tall blue giant standing atop the ruins, blocking out the rising sun.

Mosquito Girl's eyes widened.

The gorilla's jaw almost fell off.

Those little monsters collapsed to the ground, defecating and urinating indiscriminately.

"What...what is this..." The gorilla's voice trembled.

Susanoo's hand gripped the hilt of the giant sword.

Zhang Hai stood in the giant's palm, his expression remaining calm.

“You shouldn’t be here,” he said. “This is where I sleep.”

The gorilla reacted quickly.

The moment it saw Susanoo, its fighting instincts told it that this was no match for it. It turned and ran, leaping and darting through the ruins on all fours like a real gorilla.

Those little oddballs weren't so lucky.

Susanoo's giant sword swept across, slicing them in half like mowing grass. Green blood splattered, and severed limbs were scattered all over the ground, without even a scream.

The mosquito woman didn't run away.

It wasn't that she didn't want to run, but that she couldn't.

Her ability is to control mosquitoes and strengthen herself by sucking their blood. With enough mosquitoes, she can grow infinitely stronger, even evolving to the peak of the Dragon level. But right now, there isn't a single mosquito around.

The blue giant was looking at her with cold, indifferent eyes.

"You..." Mosquito Girl's voice trembled, "Do you know who I am? I am Mosquito Girl! The strongest warrior of the House of Evolution! I can drain your blood!"

Zhang Hai remained silent.

Susanoo raised its giant sword once more.
